What We've Accomplished

This post is just a friendly little write-up about everything we accomplished in 2024 (so we don't have to repeat it in our fundraising emails!). Buckle up, cause since last year's fundraiser, we've:
  • Kept the journal running and all our bills paid! 🥳
  • Hosted two more "ROMchip Presents" Twitch talks in 2024 by Will Wright and Chaim Gingold on Building SimCity, and José Zagal on Seeing Red: Nintendo's Virtual Boy
  • Expanded our presence onto YouTube and Discord
  • Commissioned 2 new freelance pieces, both forthcoming July 2025--a long read by Henrique Sampaio about the Brazilian game Casseta & Planeta: Noite Animal and a translation by Heidi Kemps and Brian Clark, of Hiromasa Iwasaki’s doujinshi LEGEND #7: Why do 2D Games Usually Go to the Right?
  • Scheduled a new trio of ROMchip Presents talks to warm-up this fundraiser season: Rachel Plotnick (1/31) on the history of gamer energy drinks ; Jesper Juul (2/7) on the C64 ; and Braxton Soderman and Tom Boellstorff (2/14) on the Intellivision )
  • Brought Logan Brown (U of Iowa) on board as our Assistant Managing Editor
  • Wrote up this cool Financial Report so we can be 100% transparent about how we spend donor money; TL;DR: 60% of funds raised goes to paying people: copyeditors, authors, translators, and tech specialists
